History
Background:
John Gavares worked for 10 years as an organization development (OD) practitioner with the nationally recognized Organization Effectiveness Program (OEP) at the City of San Diego (1985 to 1995).
John launched The Gavares Group in 1995 and began delivering a full range of organization development consultant service to clients in multiple industries.
John rejoined the City in 2007, where he led the Strategic Support Services organization development section for 8 years.
Beginning in 2016, John returned full time to The Gavares Group.
Education and Professional Engagement
Education: John received his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from San Diego State University, specializing in Organization Behavior.
Professional Involvement: John served as the President of the San Diego Organization Development Network in 1990 and 2000.
University Teaching: John served as core faculty to San Diego State’s Management Development Center for 8 years, and taught a 10-week Organization Dynamics course, 2xyear, at UCSD, for 8 years.
Published: John and Sharon Lieder, were published in the Organization Development (OD) Practitioner, VOL. 37, in 2005. They co-wrote Achieving Service Excellence in the City of Anaheim: An Appreciative Inquiry (AI) Case Study.," which documented the culture transformation at the City, and use of AI.
